I want - I want, I need - I need.

To honour Ruben Toledo's work for the City Guide since 1998, Louis Vuitton publishes a collector of 100 postcards printed in vibrant fluorescent colors. This postcard Box celebrates the 100 world cities illustrated by the artist that capture the unique essence of each destination. I honestly don't know what I'd do with 100 postcards and they are quite a pricey little impulse buy, but it looks like a box of yummy-ness to me.

Children's Book Roundup

Last week I was able to visit the Original Art show at the Society of Illustrators. Some of my favorites included:

The Three Little Pigs: An Architectural Tale
I honestly LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. It plays homage to the architect greats out there.

The Heart and the Bottle
Really deep, lovely illustrations. Worth a read.

The Extraordinary Mark Twain (According To Susy)
Ed Fotheringham has this great illustrated book! You've seen his illustrations everywhere--I was happy to see them here.

The Fathers Are Coming Home

Some other illustrators I found out about here.  Salley Mavor's stitchable style! Serge Bloch.

Some beautiful quotes that were scattered throughout the exhibit.
"No matter how, when, or where kids devour books- and no matter how illustrators are created- this show is a perfect reminder that great artistic talent and transformatives storytelling are truly what it's all about."
-- Laurent Linu, Chair, The Original Art

"A book with no pictures is like a sky with no clouds."
-- Sergio Ruzzier, Juror, The Original Art

Chesley McLaren for Limelight Marketplace

It's been awhile since I've seen anything by Chesley McLaren. I couldn't help but snap up this ad, which she illustrated. Speaking of Chesley--- it's amazing what you can find on Facebook. I want to see the originals!

Limelight Marketplace: The old Limelight which was a church>dance club> is now a market of shops! Sounds like a fun new place to explore when I get a moment.

Children's Book Show at the Society

I finally got a chance to visit the 2009 Original Art: The Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration Show over at the Society of Illustrators. Beyond inspiring! I am currently obsessing over Spoon & Princess Hyacinth (The Surprising Tale of a Girl Who Floated). I thought they set up the work so nicely this year and the book rack was a great addition as well. The entries just keep getting better and better. You have until tomorrow to view!

Blogger Envy: Ruben & Isabel Toledo for Lexus

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know my love of all things Ruben & Isabel Toledo. I even spot them occasionally in my hood'. Yesterday while emailing with my bloggy gals, Jen of Capturing the Seven asked if we had seen the new Lexus Ad featuring Ruben & Isabel. Umm no, I demanded she blog about it or I would. She did! I strongly suggest you direct your browser here.

This article also talks about some creative ways corporations are tapping into designers & architects to get their message across.
