Late July Packaging

Pretty obsessed with the Late July chip packaging. Love the type, color, and small details. I saved 'the bag' as design reference.

Squeals for Kiehl's

Tonight I was trying on skinny jeans with my sister at Bloomies (hello people Friends & Family presale!) and on my way out I gushed over this 40th Anniversary Kiehl's lip gloss packaging. Little hand drawn lip glosses. So cute.

"I want to draw cute lip glosses!" I sighed to my sister. However, sister, who left her office to try on jeans with me, had to go back to work and finish up tax returns. Needless to say I received a puzzled look.

Ahhh to draw and paint packaging all day. A dream. Some other illustrations I did for a client (note: not Kiehl's)

Amy's Bread Design

Had lunch last week at Chelsea Market. I really liked Amy's Bread take-away bag. It's the little details that get me everytime.

Edible Good Luck Charm!

Thank you Tatyana who sent me over this posting. Seems there is a new product/marketing concept which I can see becoming popular. I enjoy anything these days that is tangible and can arrive in my mailbox. Check out the Kit Kat Mail: A New Edible Good Luck Charm over at psfk.

Manolo Blahnik for Coca-Cola

While I was away I spotted an article in a foreign design magazine about Manolo Blahnik's Coca-Cola Light bottle. Pictures speak louder than words when you don't understand the language.

Tropicana Reverts back to Classic Logo

I don't know about you, but my fellow designers and I have had much debate lately over the new Tropicana packaging/logo designed by Peter Arnell. This week I heard they are reverting back to the old classic packaging. Wow, I haven't lived through any re-verts instead of re-designs and I am happy to see the old logo reinstated. Why mess with what works? (We do however like the rounded cap!)

"The new design confused our core consumers and that's why we went back," said Massimo d'Amore, CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages, but "people do not buy design. They buy products. We have not changed the product." See whole article from the NYPost.

From trendcentral
"And by the way: Think your opinion matters? Well, Tropicana sure does. Overwhelmingly negative consumer feedback in regards to their new juice packaging drove the orange juice giant to return to the former design. Talk about power to the people!"

ps. trendcentral's daily newsletter is GREAT!

Pepsi New Branding

Did you see the new Pepsi commercial on New Year's Eve? I spotted the can a couple of times and had some interesting discussions with my design-y friends about the new branding. On New Year's Eve the logo took center stage all over Time's Square. So if you haven't seen a new can yet, you were probably able to see the new logo up close on your television set.

Underconsideration talked about it here.

Pepsi's Refresh Everything site.

More about Pepsi's Caffine Buzz and (I want to say Target-y look).

Brandweek article here on Pepsi's WORDPLAY ads and branding.

Logo design Love shares some of my thinking and links to some other design opinions!

You will swoon over this video posted over at AdGabber of the history of Pepsi & the logos... You can see the smiley logo well, smile.. :-)

{extra thoughts--where are all the old branded Pepsi drinks that were on the shelves a couple weeks ago---, at the dollar store?}

Bliss Holiday Packaging

While browsing Sephora I spotted these wonderful Bliss holiday packages. The taglines are witty and sooooo New York. The Big Orange reminds me of Syracuse, NY and would be a perfect gift for a college student or recent Syracuse grad! "i glove" new york and "scent"-tral park are just as creative.

Olympic Packaging

My friend {Thanks, Audra} came back from the Olympics and brought back the VIP Opening ceremony program for me to devour! She knew I'd love to see the craftsmanship and design that went into this collectable. Hello french folds! Each page tells the story in English & Chinese about each 'performance'. It was wonderful to be able to admire the details close up after only watching the spectacle on television.

I enjoyed also going through the other 'bits' she brought back. Everyone watching the opening ceremony also got the hand drum, flag and flashlight. Talk about branding. How about the Beijing Swirly Swirl? the tickets are also mini pieces of art and the card stock is a heavy weight---The five ring bracelets in the red box with the foil debossed logo are also quite lux. I'm sure all the printing was done in China.

Packaging Design in Israel

Happy Monday-back from my travels and will be posting about packaging, store & window design, and visuals from Israel this week. Thanks for the great wishes, while I was away. It was nice to have a semi-break from the computer and be able to soak in the creativity around me.

I love browsing supermarkets when visiting foreign countries. It's like going through a museum! It's the one place to test the basics--do these graphics, patterns, and type speak to me? The ultimate test is putting something in another language. Do I want to buy this without knowing what it says? Have the graphics sold me?

Here are some images from Supersol in Israel:

I kept seeing the Absolut Disco bottle everywhere. It's a bit outdated, but still my first viewing. An attractive absinthe labeled bottle as well.

Lush for Mum's Day

I stopped by LUSH (The Chelsea NYC Store) last weekend and was loving all their gift sets (Especially for Mother's Day). I picked up a great gift for my cousin, who is a new Mommy! (Happy 1st Mother's Day, Margie!) I usually only shop at LUSH in England. After perusing their website to get more ideas I found their England and Canada sites to be the best. Great packaging, witty text, Go LUSH.

It's All About the Packaging

I usually get really excited about Winter holiday gift sets. There is something wonderful about mini-versions of regular beauty finds. This year everyone seems to also have Valentine's Day gift sets for sale, lucky me! Here are some of my favorites (by packaging standards only!) {Kiss me with Kiehl's, Yves Saint Laurent Love Collection, Philosophy Candy Hearts}
